COLD THROW: This is the smell when you cold sniff (smell when cold). It's the scent you feel as soon as you open the lid of the candle jar. It's unburnt and the wax is still at room temperature, so it's called "Cold Throw.
HOT THROW: This is the fragrance released when the candle is burning. The same set of scents mixes the same essential oils, but Hot Throw can have a different scent mix than Cold Throw. When burning, each jar of scented candles will take us through 3 layers of incense along with a clear feeling of First Hot Throw—the scent when burned, and Last Hot Throw—the scent after extinguishing is still preserved in the space.
The top notes are often very noticeable in Cold Throw. The molecules are small and volatile, and the fragrance is short. We can see this in both Hot Throw and with different hierarchies.
During the candle burning process, you can clearly see that the middle notes in Hot Throw have different evaporation temperatures, which are released strongly at different times when the candle wax melts. This will create a different scent mix at each candle's burning time. This is also the reason the scent of the candle is perceived by each person at each candle's burning time a little differently.
The incense has the largest molecular size. The evaporation temperature is quite high, so it will release when burning the candle for a long time and can even save the scent after the candle has turned off.
However, the arrangement of incense layers is only relative. Sometimes, when you open the candle jar and smell it cold (cold sniff), you can also notice a few notes in the middle or bottom notes. Or when it's almost off, it's normal to still see lingering notes in the top notes. Thus, the scent layers of the candle are related to the process of releasing each note in each candle burning time, not the candle jar divided into 3 parts, each of which has a different smell.
